Lofty Goals

My ultimate goal is to change the world for the better. Lofty? Nope, I believe that if I can help connect a customer with something that can make their day a little bit better, you've changed their world. This blog is a collection of my thoughts on social media/public relations & advertising and the campaigns that I admire.

With over 4.7 million views you may have seen this video from Wendy’s Lookbook fashion blog and YouTube channel , but if you haven’t, you are in for a real treat.  If only every user put in this much effort into what they upload on YouTube.

The use of video linking and camera angles is outstanding and keeps the viewer enthralled from beginning to end. However, the larger point is that this video inspired me to learn more.  So I clicked on a couple more videos for 10 must-have pieces, more magic!

After learning about Wendy’s bi-weekly pairings and how-to videos, I was hooked. I followed her on Twitter and fan’d her on Facebook and obviously subscribed to her YouTube channel. This lovely lady even inspired me to WRITE about her.

That’s the key! Do things well and people will notice. Who doesn’t love good press?

Wendy’s Lookbook previously posted a behind the scenes for the scarf video. Click the link if you’re feeling ambitious/inspired to make your own great video!

All Hallows Eve is just around the corner.  In honor of my favorite holiday, I’ve collected some of the advertisements that epitomize all that is boo-tiful, spooktacular, overall just scary good!

Who cares most about Halloween advertising? The candy companies.

This first commercial is still airing and is a Halloween take on the popular M&M Christmas spots.  It’s a great use of maintaining the same brand image (the M&M characters) and their ongoing struggle to be taken seriously, no matter the holiday.

The second spot is near and dear to my heart. I love, love, love Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. In this Halloween spot it’s the copywriting that is the superstar.  ” The scariest part of Halloween? Having to give away all your Reese’s”. Truer words have never been written.

This final advertisement was actually banned from further airing on TV because it was too scary. However ever since I watched Nike’s take on Texas Chainsaw Massacre/Michael Myers I haven’t been able to forget it.  The ultimate premise of savior via Nike’s is a bit ridiculous, but very entertaining.  *Sidenote sorry for the poor quality this is the best I could find on YouTube

Bonus: Scary Bad

As I’ve discussed with many since it began airing in 2010, this Snickers commercial is just scary bad. At first it terrified me, then I realized it was supposed to be for kids? The costuming that makes up this lady’s horrific neighbor could rival the horror of waking up with the Burger King.

Now’s your chance. Any commercials that I missed? Have a print ad that gives you the chills? Leave me a comment with a link, I’d love to check them out.

Happy Halloween everyone!

The importance of the art of typography. It says more than you might think.

Always been a big fan of this quote. Especially inspirational for those that may not have found their niche quite yet.

dknyprgirl:

1. There is no “i” in team, but there is one in “chic”. Dress the part, because it matters.

2. People remember how they are treated. Be kind to everyone- you never know where they will eventually end up.

3. Being accessible makes you indispensable.

4. Communication is your job, silence is…

In memoriam. Thank you Steve Jobs.

I am really excited about my Facebook Timeline design. I wanted something that would stand out from the mass amount of baby/dog covers that will soon overtake my friends’ pages (ps I’m looking at you Zuckerberg). Ultimately, it came down to a Twitter page background or Pinterest background. Pinterest came out on top because I was able to share three boards worth of mini-interest pictures. Facebook Timeline is all about describing myself, right?

Leave me a comment about what you’re doing with your Timeline cover!

Tip #1 Be a grammar whiz!
One of the best tricks I’ve recently heard to “really” spell check your work, read it aloud to yourself. Many times I’ve been fooled into thinking I had a typo-less paper, then I read it out loud and caught some whoopsies. You’ll be able to catch those mistakes that are technically correct, but don’t make a lick of sense. An old favorite of mine is writing “that” when I really meant “the”.
